ACID REFLUX TESTIMONIES

Testimony - Pat M

"My husband had problems with GERD for years, and it became very severe. Then we heard that Peppermint Ginger (now called Stomach Soothing Complex) would fix the problem in a couple of weeks by taking 2 tablets prior to each meal, then reducing the number and frequency as healing progressed. He tried it, and sure enough, it worked! Now he seldom needs it! - Pat M**

Testimony

"I had been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and esophageal reflux over a year ago. I was given a prescription for the reflux condition, but tried to control the IBS with diet - no dairy products, roughage, chocolate, caffeine, etc. In other words, taking the fun out of eating! Even then I had flare-ups and be on a liquid diet for several days to allow my intestinal tract to settle down. I lost about 15 pounds in a short time. Optiflora was a godsend when Shaklee introduced it. Chris recommended I take 2 Optiflora capsules and 1 Herb Lax with the prebiotic to start with. I soon cut back to one capsule and only a teaspoon of the prebiotic powder and been taking that each night at bedtime ever since. My condition has subsided - no diarrhea, bloating, or cramping. I can eat anything as long as I don't overdo it and have not had a spell of IBS for months. By adding 3 Stomach Soothing Complex after meals, I no longer need a prescription medicine for the reflux condition either. All thanks to Shaklee's wonderful research and commitment to "the best".**

My husband Frank and I started the diet January 3. Today (Friday, Jan. 7) I have dropped 10 pounds; Frank 7; my waist is down 1 1/2 inches and my thigh 1/2 inch. Because of stresses in our life, I have not slept well for the past 2 1/2 years without some herbal sleeping aids. I have been sleeping without the Quietude this week; have had great energy and not been hungry. Because we are doing it together, it has not been difficult to maintain the diet. Frank has had a significant benefit. He has suffered from acid reflux for most of his adult life and for several months has been taking Prilosec - a prescription drug that costs us about $176/bottle (one month supply). His 3rd day on the I Love Dieting program he literally forgot to take the Prilosec--and because of the schedule he maintains he was unable to take it later in the day when he remembered to take it. Usually, he would be in severe pain within a few hours. He had no pain all night so decided the next day to let it go. We are now into day 3 -- and still no acid reflux! We are assuming it is a result of not eating foods that contributed to the reflux and the balance of the I Love Dieting program. Previously he took all his protein and supplements in the morning and ate very little raw fruit and veggies. We'll keep you posted on how this continues. What a magnificent benefit this has been for both of us - Marceil & Frank F

From about August to mid-November I had been having episodes of acid-reflux. So bad, that I thought I was having a heart attack. I could not lay down, sit or even walk for about 12 hours. I would sit on the floor hunched over and my chest would still hurt. I would also vomit until I got the dry heaves. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience for me. I had an episode about every week to the day. Then my upline sales leader, Sandi Chapman, told me to try Optiflora and Stomach Soothing Complex. I started out taking Doing Life Intentionally Together Optiflora three times a day and Stomach Soothing Complex between 3-4 times a day, I also drank about 8 glasses of water a day. I was so scared of having another episode of acid reflux I wanted to do anything I could to make sure that didn't happen. I now take Optiflora 1-2 times a day and Stomach Soothing Complex 1-2 times a day. I also take 4 alfalfa tablets twice a day. I am happy to report that it has been two months since I have had an episode. I know that Shaklee is healing me! I truly believe in the quality of Shaklee products!

Your friend with acid reflux who has esophageal scarring might be too late for nutritional or conservative measures. Usually, people with this level of gastric distress have a long history of late-night eating, high-stress lifestyle, and poor food choices. The muscle at the top of the stomach which keeps food and stomach acid from entering the esophagus (cardiac sphincter) has been stretched and does not regain its function. Sometimes the advice for hiatus hernia sufferers can help; 1) do not eat within 3 hours of bedtime, 2) do not drink within 1 hour of bedtime, 3) elevate the head of the bed 4 inches or use several large pillows to raise the head and shoulders, 4) drink 12 ounces of warm water the first thing in the morning and do 10 straight-leg heel drops to traction the esophagus. I might add, this condition is rarely due to too much stomach acid. It is the result of poor food choices, eating schedule and stress - Dr. Brouse

I experienced acid reflux prior to Shaklee and was told to use Tagamet. I was given a diet plan - no fried foods etc. Then came Shaklee -- and I began to experiment on Shaklee products, since I did not want to take Tagamet indefinitely. I listened to lots of tapes and was told about calcium/magnesium being a natural tranquilizer. I would chew Vita-Cal (about 3 or 4), and sometimes other calcium products before going to bed and found that it helped a lot. That, along with watching my diet, I was able to eliminate Tagamet completely. I remember visiting the doctor the following year for a checkup --- she was impressed with my condition until I told her that I had not used Tagamet in months!! She was surprised and asked what I was doing -- when I told her about Shaklee --- she just replied "whatever works" -- and closed my file!!! I smiled and walked away - never to see her again!! - Barbara K
