Parkinson's Disease Testimonials Parkinson's Disease -Chuck's Story Below is a story about my husband and his experience to date on Vivix, Shaklee's anti-aging tonic. He has been on various Shaklee supplements since 2001, but we have seen the most change since starting Vivix August 2008. The improvements became noticeable within 2 months of starting Vivix. Before Vivix, our goal was to keep him as healthy as possible, so his body only needed to deal with Parkinson's. Since Vivix, our goal has changed to improving his DNA, reducing his symptoms and his medications; then use his personal experience to help others. I often reflect on why God put Shaklee in my path and it’s times like this when I hear the answer. December 2008 I am 58, Chuck is 78. We’ve been married 24 years. He is the love of my life. What I didn’t know way back before we met, was that I was in love with him even before I knew he existed. Do you know what I mean? That’s the kind of relationship we have. In 2003 Chuck was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease progressive neurological disorder with no known cure. When you hear Parkinson’s you may think of Michael J. Fox, or the former Pope, who lived with Parkinson’s for many, many years. Chuck has a very positive attitude about his PD, he figures something would eventually get him, and it could be worse. For those of you not familiar with PD, some of the symptoms are: tremors in the hands and legs slow walk, eventually becoming a shuffle hunched posture balance and coordination issues impaired large and small muscle dexterity speech problems drooling facial mask-people with PD begin to lose their expression, have a quiet dullness about them, or as I refer to it, their lights go out Chuck has been taking Shaklee supplements since 2001 and is on prescription meds for the PD. I’ve done a lot of research, talked with others, and have him on a pretty solid Shaklee program which we are constantly tweaking as we learn more. At convention this year (2008), when Vivix, our new anti-aging tonic, was announced, Dr. Jamie McManus, Director of Health Sciences at Shaklee, said people with diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and neurological diseases would have the most results. Well, you can imagine my cheer at that news! I brought Vivix home from convention; Chuck began taking it mid August and has been faithful with it every day! He promised me he would do that for 6 months before making any decision on whether to continue it or not. Keep in mind, my darling husband is my very best skeptic. When asked how he feels today, he says he feels better but not sure exactly how. My report to you is that little things are happening. And it is the little things in life that mean the most! He’s back to: 1. Laughing, smiling and making jokes, 2. Participating in conversations at family gatherings, 3. Whistling and singing silly songs, 4. Standing straighter when he hugs me, 5. He’s just more engaged in life, 6. And the best of all when you look into his eyes, his lights are back on! Is Vivix making a difference in Chuck’s health and in our hope for him? You bet it is! And is he going to keep taking it after his promised 6 months? He better! Updates1/09: Chuck had cataract surgery in both eyes in Nov. and Dec., then eyelid lift surgery early January. At his one-week checkup after the last procedure, his surgeon said, You are healing much faster than I expected! Most 78 year old don’t hear that! It is the prayers & Shaklee! 2/09: Chuck had his 6-month check-up with his neurologist in January. With reluctance, he agreed to have Chuck go off Sinemet, one of his two PD meds, which he had started April 2008 to help with the increased tremors and other symptoms (he’s been taking Requip since 2004). We think Sinemet may have been partially responsible for the atrial fibrillation that was found in October 2008 (one of the side effects is heart irregularities but neither the cardiologist nor neurologist could find a correlation). We have not seen an increase in his PD symptoms since stopping Sinemet. He had a re-check with the cardiologist late January and the atrial fibrillation/congestive heart failure was downgraded to a heart flutter, his heart muscle is stronger. (Thank you Jesus!). He is still on Atenolol (beta-blocker) and Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) for the A.Fib. diagnosed in October. Chuck is also on a nutritional and detoxing program designed by Dr. Richard Brouse, chiropractic physician, biochemist, and certified clinical nutritionist in Oregon, working with him long distance. The Build a Better You program includes extensive blood, hair, and urine testing, with a program designed specifically for Chuck’s results. After years of research and evaluation, Dr. Brouse has chosen to continue to work exclusively with Shaklee products. (I was thrilled to discover through this process that the Shaklee supplement program Chuck was already on, based on research I had done, was very close to Dr. Brouse’s recommendations!) 3/09: We have been meaning to tell you what a difference I noticed in Uncle Chuck when you were back home last month. The night we were together for dinner he was much more his old self, making jokes and smiling, socializing. I was so happy to see him back to his happy self. Love you! Lisa 6/09: It was decided by a heart specialist and Chuck to have a heart ablation in early April to completely correct the electrical problem causing the heart flutter. He did just fine with it, no complications (thank you Jesus). Early May he had an MRI and follow up with the heart specialist. The doctor was amazed at how perfectly Chuck’s heart is working, and how some of his earlier concerns about what they saw on the CT Scan no longer existed! Chuck is doing great, no restrictions; come back in 6 months and he’d probably take him off the two meds. Now he is working towards regaining his strength and stamina. 9/09: Taken off Lisinopril because he no longer needs it; Atenolol cut in halfYippee!10/09: Heart Clinic follow up. Chuck was told the Ejection Fraction (the ability of the heart to pump the blood out, the systolic function) has not only greatly improved, it is back to normal! The Physician’s Assistant said that is probably due to the Ablation procedure, which corrected his fast heart, the medications and natural healing. Atenolol cut in half again! 11/09: Our chiropractor, whom Chuck and I have seen regularly since about 2001, has noticed an improvement in Chuck too, in the last several months he adjusts more easily, holds his adjustments longer, he is more flexible, and his dry humor is back! 12/09: 6 month check up with neurologist. Now HE wants information on Vivix! For complete list ask. Parkinson's -Back to Walking and Talking After a very full and vigorous life, Don began to experience very severe Parkinson's symptoms a number of years ago. For a variety of reasons, he had not been using Vivix for a period of time, and had gotten into a state where his reaction to the world around him was very muted. When he could get back on Vivix, several weeks ago, the nurses noticed an astounding improvement. He was not responding during meals, and not walking at all. After using Vivix again, he began responding, talking and walking.------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This testimony of Ken Hagedorn Opening remarks by Suzanne Flemming:“Ken, you want to come on up? When Shaklee sent the MindWorks to those who went to Regionals, the first person I thought of was Ken Hagedorn. And Ken has had some issues, some health problems, and he has been on MindWorks...and do you want to let them know what has been happening? Ken Hagedorn: “Sure....(he walks to the podium) Hi, I’m Ken, and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 4 years ago. That’s a life-changing thing. And without going through a lot of detail....we’ll make it short and quick and sweet....Martha (our speaker that day) referred to the shuffle. We’ve all seen that, and my shuffle started probably 6 months ago. And you can hardly move your feet, you can hardly turn at all. Those are things that are just impossible. And when I started on this program, first of all, the most refreshing thing as far as MindWorks for me, I spent my whole life with people who told me I didn’t have a brain. (The audience laughs.) So this is a big deal for me. (He smiles.) Anyhow, I started on the Shaklee and it was 28 wasn’t it (looks at his wife in the audience), after 28 days let me show you what happened. (He puts the microphone down and walks briskly with long strides about 20 feet one direction, then 40 ft the other direction and about 20 feet back to center, turning quickly at each end). (Audience response: “Oh wow!” Several seconds of loud clapping and whooping.) Obviously, something is different! (Very loud laughter –in agreement and clapping). It’s an interesting set of circumstances, the first time that that happened, sweet Nancy, where’s my wife, sweet Nancy and I were sitting at home and I said, ‘Honey, something is going on in my body, I can’t explain what it is, but I feel NORMAL, whatever that is, and that that I just did for you lasted for probably about 10 minutes. The next day, upon taking another one, uh, it went about 20 minutes. Any how,it has increased every day, today we’re on about 6 hours right now. It comes and goes. I can tell you I’m kind of on the borderline, it’s going to quit here pretty soon. (He said this later in the afternoon toward the end of an all-day seminar.) (Light laughter) One of the symptoms of Parkinson’s is a real loss of coordination and you can see the way I spun around there, I mean, I have no problem with that. Believe me, if you know people that have Parkinson’s, they can’t do that. You’ve got to hold onto something or take it easy, you kind of get glued to the floor is what happens. But I have a strong athletic background through college....I’ve always been a strong, coordinated type person. And we were in Cincinnati visiting relatives , sweet Nancy and I were, and we were all sitting around the dinner table. They asked me to pass the meat platter. The meat platter was sitting on the table and it didn’t have a lot on it, a couple chicken breasts, some sausage or something. Anyhow, I tried to pick that up, well, I couldn’t even pick up the plate. Ok....and that’s really frustrating. But let me tell you, let me show you what happens after this deal. (He puts down the microphone, grabs one of the heavy metal, padded chairs, lifts it over his head and hold sit there for several seconds.) (Audience –“Wow!” Cheers and clapping). I got to tell you, when I did this at Suzanne’s house a few months ago (I think, from later conversation, he meant a few weeks ago), they have wooden bar stools, I picked up one in each hand and went over my head and held them like this (indicating by raised hands how he held them high and steady for a bit). Praise God, our creator! He’s created all these people that have been researching this all that time, and praise that they keep going. Just pray for us...thank you. (Clapping) Just....thank you....(Continuous clapping for several seconds). Question from audience: “How many does he take; how many do you take?” Ken:One a day. Audience:(reacts in a surprised way) Ken:Now we...we....that may change. Because as we are sitting here at the table we hear people talking about two...we may try two. We started the first part of September? Is that when we started? (His wife said, “August”). August. Suzanne Flemming:September...as soon as that supply came from the Regional, right before conference. Ken:One other thing, this is a real breakthrough. One of the things Parkinson’s does to you,it shrinks your handwriting. It shrinks your handwriting. You lose the ability to make nice letters so everything gets small, and eventually it gets so small that it’s gone, you can’t see it. That has returned. I’ve got full handwriting ability. Suzanne Flemming:The week before we left for conference, we had a meeting at our house and Ken and Nancy were there. He walked in and I told Jim, I said, “Oh my goodness (she wells up with tears and her voice cracks as she speaks), look at Ken.” He was humped over, he was shuffling the worst I had ever seen him. He came in, sat down on our couch, and in 15 minutes he had checked out. I mean he was asleep, he was not with us, he was there in body but spirit, mind. When we returned from Long Beach (where the annual Shaklee Convention was held in August, introducing new products, including MindWorks), we had a meeting on the 25thof August. He sat there for an hour and 15 minutes, participated, did “the stool thing” before the meeting, and again after the meeting to show us he could still do it. So, you guys (referring to the Shaklee members in the audience), we have an AMAZING product. Pakinsons Disease -Head Clear In One Month My husband John has had Parkinson's for well over 10 years. With Shaklee and other alternatives, plus some medication, he has done an excellent job in maintaining or at least minimizing the progression. In the last year, however, I had been getting concerned about his mental deterioration. Sometimes he would slur his words or not be able to find the right words and often not be able to be clear conceptually. After being on Vivix for one month it seemed that his head was clearing. Over the last few months I can see a huge difference. I have a working partner again who gives his opinions and ideas more clearly than he has in years. When we went to the neurologist, she thought he was so much better in both mental capacity and balance. She also thought he was on more medication. Actually, he was not! Thanks to Shaklee for doing the research to create such effective products. Joan Lubar-Alvarez & John Alvarez My name is Ed Mangelsen and I have Parkinson’s, a neurological disease with no cure and progressive symptoms. I was diagnosed 13 years ago ( in 2002) and was told I had probably had it for 10 years. I’ve used Shaklee products (the whole line) for a number of years. Initially, I had 3 separate neurologists. Each of them told me that there were studies which showed that the progression of symptoms might be delayed if I would take 1200mg of CoQ10 daily. They also said it was very expensive. Ann said, “I don’t care!” Shaklee’s CoQHeart was 30 mg. That meant 40 capsules daily. So, I decided to try over the counter CoQ 10,and after three separate brands (all of which made me sick), I came back to Shaklee. I learned that Shaklee’s CoQHeart, when tested against other brands on the market, is 50-75% more efficacious. I settled in for 800 mg. Thank goodness, I trust Shaklee! So, I started with that. Then, Shaklee introduced Vivix, and I began using it right away. On a visit to the Neurology Clinic at University of Colorado Medical Center, the doctor on duty did a double take when she saw I was not taking any medications for Parkinson’s! First she said they try to hold off giving LevaDopa meds to patients until they are in the “older age group.” She did another double take when she looked at my birth date. “Oh, my! You are in that older age group! ”That’s when we told her about Vivix. She was very cautious, said she had never heard of Resveratrol, and would check it out. U of CMC has great doctors, but you never get a personal relationship with any of them. They do no follow-up, or call you personally. But not this time! Two hours after we got home she called us. “I’ve just researched all the studies being conducted on neurological conditions using Resveratrol. There are lots and lots. Keep on using it! Don’t quit!” Believe me –I have no intention of stopping (and remember Vivix is NOT just resveratrol –it is enhanced –so it works even better than Resveratrol alone.) Now, as of August 2015, it has been enhanced even more! Even with this, the symptoms slowly increased. Ed has a tremor in his right hand, and had begun to do the "Parkinson's shuffle, "when he walked(fear of falling, shuffing his feet, walking with his head down.)We used to hold hands when we walked, but we had to quit as he was feeling 'off balance. 'Within 5 days of starting with MindWorks*,his walking became close to normal again: head up, a more normal stride, not feeling 'out of balance. 'The other night when we went for a walk, he reached out and took my hand again! This is another product he will never stop taking! *(introduced by Shaklee in August 2014)Ask about what he took.
